Enviro 200 31428 (was 2) has now returned from repaint. Looks like 31418 has returned to the West Midlands with the Bus Times fleet list showing B7RLE 30833 (AE57 FXW) coming the other way.

Have also noticed more recently that the route branded vehicles have started appearing on other routes such as Airway 9 Metrocity was in Derby the other week on the V3. Today the Tutbury Jinny Solar has been on the X12 for much of the day whilst one of the Scania i3's was on the 1. I'm guessing that all of them will eventually lose their branding and the fleet will just have one common livery.

A new 19A will start from the 17th April running from Burton and Swad to Mercia Park on weekdays mostly in the early morning and evenings.

Also it seems that Diamond has joined the £2 fare offer.
From Saturday 1st April, we are reducing the price of our single tickets on Diamond Bus services to just £2 per journey as part of the Government’s Help for Households scheme.

The Bus Fare Cap Grant scheme is a Government funded scheme introduced on most single bus journeys across England, the scheme has been extended until 30th June 2023 and following a review, Diamond Bus will also now be joining the scheme… just in time for you to enjoy some great Spring and Summer journeys out!

The days are getting longer, the Easter holidays are here, Summer is on the horizon...

There are some great places to visit and a wealth of things to see and do across the Midlands and with our new £2 single fare price, it’s a great time to get out and explore the area by bus.

You can now make a single journey on the majority of Diamond services across our Full Midlands Region, and never pay more than £2* . Don’t worry if your single fare is usualy less than £2, it will stay the same price! You can buy our new £2 single ticket on board from your friendly driver using cash, contactless payment or Apple/Google Pay. It’s that simple!

If you are a regular traveller, intend to make a number of journeys during your day or are travelling in a family/group, you may find that our range of day, week & month tickets offer even greater value.

Visit our tickets pages for more information on our full ticket range.

£2 Fare Scheme Terms & Conditions:

This offer covers the majority* of services for Diamond Bus across the following Counties: West Midlands County, Shropshire, Warwickshire & Worcestershire and for Diamond East Midlands Services across the following counties: Staffordshire, Derbyshire & Leicestershire. Offer does not extend to Diamond North West or South East Services. £2 Single tickets are valid for one single journey only on the service purchased on.

Service Exceptions:

Diamond East Midlands: *Some contracted services are not eligible to be included in this offer, as follows: Not valid on 009, 19A, 322 & Florette staff services.

Diamond West Midlands & Worcestershire: *Some contracted services are not eligible to be included in this offer, as follows: Not valid on B1, R1, C B’ham Uni, Bromsgrove on Demand, N1, N2, 142, 142A, 17H, 22, 25 Erdington, 27, 27A, 45, 5, 5A, 600, A15, A16, 17, 17A, 17S, 18, 25 Dudley, 57 Stourbridge, 81.

I did read somewhere yesterday that the £2 fares weren't available in Burton yesterday. Can't immediately find where it was. Perhaps it was just an IT glitch on the first day. Certainly not an April fool I must add!

Full list is as follows, though only the above two seem to have entered service so far. They are expected to see off the remaining Volvo B7TL/Plaxton Presidents and DAF DB250/Wright Geminis.

40611 BF15KFK
40612 BF15KFE

It will be a shame to see the DAF Gemini's go, I always enjoyed them.

Though I do wonder if Burton actually need so many deckers.

Most of the decker weekday duties seem to include school runs which is likely the main reason. At weekends normally only a couple are out on Saturdays. Noticed the X12/31 seems to be a regular decker routes now now.

Thinking about it, I can understand deckers on the X12, the last few times I've used it, it's been rather full.

40611 looks to have entered service today.

Gemini 40633 has been withdrawn and potentially Solar 30905 as well.

Looks to be some improvements to the 401, 4/8/9 on the horizon. Interesting to see the 401 on the list considering it was going to be withdrawn last Summer.

More buses for 17 Derbyshire routes

Published: 24 April 2023
Bus services across Derbyshire are set to have improved timetables and, in some cases, extended routes, with the funding coming from the Government.

We were successful in gaining £47m to improve bus services in the county. Some of this money is being used to improve timetables on 17 routes. Two of these routes have already started, and another 15 will start over the next few months.

The improvements will include running additional buses at evenings and weekends, adding extra journeys during the day, running 2 an hour where currently there is only 1 for example and extending services to new destinations.

Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways Assets and Transport, Councillor Kewal Singh Athwal, said:

“This is great news for everyone who currently uses bus services, and we hope will tempt more people to give the bus a go.
“These improvements are all in response to people asking for more services so we are confident they will be used.
“Using the bus can be a real alternative to using the car for every journey, and for many in the county they are their only form of transport.”
Roads Minister Richard Holden said:

“People up and down the country deserve a modern, reliable, and affordable public transport system. That is why we have provided Derbyshire County Council with £47 million to boost its bus services.
“Supporting bus operators in Derbyshire with providing more services and extending timetables across 17 routes is great for local residents, who will now benefit and be able to make the most of the fantastic work, business and leisure opportunities Derbyshire has to offer.”
Services 55 and 170, which run around the Chesterfield/Matlock/Bakewell/Alfreton areas have had additional buses running from 27 March.

Service 55 (which goes from Alfreton to Chesterfield via Tibshelf) has been extended to Chesterfield Royal Hospital and the train station every day. It has also been extended to Wimsey Way industrial estate in Somercotes morning and evenings, Monday to Saturdays, so that workers can use the bus to get to and from their jobs.

Later evening services have also been added, with the last bus leaving Chesterfield at 11:15pm (previously 6.15pm) and Alfreton at 10:15pm (previously 6:30pm). On Sundays there are 3 later services with the last bus being 11:15pm.

Service 170 (which previously went from Chesterfield to Bakewell) has been extended from New Beetwell Street, Chesterfield, to the train station and there are extra evening journeys at 7pm, 9pm and 11pm from Chesterfield (previous last bus 6:15pm) and 8pm, 10pm and midnight in the other direction (previously last bus 6:15pm). These 3 late buses have also been extended from Bakewell to Matlock to fill a gap between these 2 towns Monday to Saturday.

Details of the other 15 routes are all below.

This service will start from 22 May:

401 - Burton, Hatton, Doveridge, Uttoxeter

Extension of the route to better serve the Dove Valley Business Park at Foston. An extra two early morning services in each direction (5.10am and 6.10am from Burton-Upon-Trent and 5.15am and 6.15am from Uttoxeter), and extra evening journeys (8.25pm and 9.25pm from Burton-Upon-Trent and 9.45pm from Uttoxeter) would also operate.

These additions would allow staff to get in for the early and evening shifts at Dove Valley Business Park, as well as improving links to Burton hospital for both staff and visitors.

We are working hard with bus companies on the following service improvements, and will announce start dates for them as soon as we have them:

4/8/9 Burton, Swadlincote, Melbourne, East Midlands Airport

Improving the frequency in the evenings and weekends to create a regular 15 minute frequency service between Swadlincote, Newhall and Burton.

Some more changes at Diamond EM:

From tomorrow route 10 will run hourly off peak on weekdays. Not sure on the saving as it currently interworks with the 2 which is half hourly.

10th July will see the 70/73 and V3 combined into a new circular service 70/70a Derby - Barrow - Aston - Derby.

From Monday 10 July 2023

Diamond Bus

  • service 70: will be revised and improved to include services 73 and V3 and will be numbered 70 and 70A. These will be circular services, 70 operating Derby – Barrow – Aston – Derby, while 70A will operate in the reverse direction. The improvements are funded by the Council’s Bus Service Improvement Plan
  • services 70 and V3: replaced by services 70 and 70A

From the 25th fares are changing with day tickets no longer able to be used on Chaserider and Selcet. Also Diamond looks like they will continue with the £2 scheme.

Fare changes in the Burton, Lichfield and South Derbyshire Region.

There will be some changes to Diamond East Midlands ticket prices from Sunday 25th June.

Reasons for these changes:

Since the Coronavirus pandemic, the bus industry as a whole has struggled to recover and continues to sustain financial losses across the UK. Many bus routes across the Central-Shire areas are loss making, the decline in viability is linked to rising labour and operating costs and the lack of revenue growth.

We have been working with local authorities since the pandemic to revise services to try and align the income and expenditure of these routes and improve their viability, but, unfortunately in the current economic climate, we have now reluctantly taken the decision to increase our fares.

Diamond will continue to take part in the current Government funded £2 fare cap scheme, with a single journey costing no more than just £2 on most services. However some other ticket prices will increase in the following ticketing zones: Burton, Lichfield and Network Zone B. We have tried to keep fares frozen in these zones where possible.

We understand that the general cost of living has increased for many people, and in these difficult times, to hear that bus fares in the region will also be increasing is not welcome news. However, it is an unfortunate necessity in order to make our network more viable and reduce the risk of significant service cuts to the bus network in the future.

The new ticket prices can be viewed here

Changes to cross-operator acceptance of Diamond East Midlands, Chaserider and Select Bus Tickets & Passes

From 25th June, Chaserider and Select Bus tickets and passes will also no longer be accepted for travel on Diamond Bus East Midlands services.

This includes tickets purchased on-bus and m-tickets purchased via the MyTrip app. Chaserider and Select Bus will also withdraw acceptance of Diamond Bus tickets on their services.

For Multi-Operator travel, please purchase a “Staffordshire Knot” Bus ticket, which will continue to be valid on all three operators services.

Finally the Midland Classic website will move to Diamond after the 30th June.
This Midland Classic Website will fully move across to the Diamond Bus Website from 30th June 2023.

We have been working to incorporate route information and mobile tickets into the Diamond website and App which has been completed and has been fully operational for a while.

If you haven’t yet taken a look at the diamondbuses.com website, please visit the site for your future service information, it has lots of useful information to help you plan your Diamond East Midlands journey.

If you do have any queries that you are unable to find the answers to, our friendly customer services team will be on hand to help. We will be changing our email address to [email protected] but, any emails set to [email protected] will still reach us.

A new rumour is that Diamond have bought an Ex First Streetlite DF, one of many to be based at Burton to replace all of the Scania L94UBs in the fleet.

They are temporary stop gap for the DNW Eccles depot whilst they wait for their new Bee Network Enviro 200s. Whether they come to Burton then only time will tell

I’ve also heard that Dart 30960 might also be transferred to Burton so they can start painting the rest of the Burton fleet.

As my original post says, they have been acquired for Diamond West Midlands. A number of older Solo's & E200's are to be withdrawn from Kidderminster Depot, these 10 extra Streetlites will replace those buses either directly or indirectly (tbc)

Burton is Diamond East Midlands.

My original post on the WMBus Forum doesn't mention Burton. Suggest you re-read it.
So is diamond buying or transferring any more buses to Burton at all?

Here's is a list of some of the Diamond fleet that have not tracked on bus times since March - April this year. Whether they get transferred to Burton I'm not sure but it would be nice to see then at Burton.

20014 YJ10 MFY - Redditch

20739 YJ10 EYU - Perry Barr

20918 YJ62 FGF - Bolton

28346 SN08 AEA - Heathrow Airport

30509 FJ58 CYT - Bolton

30700 LJ09 KPA - Perry Barr

32308 SK16 GXJ - West Bromwich

33004 BT11 UWJ - Bolton

33014 BD64 NBZ - Bolton

33019 BD64 NCF - Bolton

Yeah I did hear they were originally for Preston.
40615 was repainted in Preston base colours & stored at Tividale for a while, before being repainted again in to Diamond 2 Tone livery for Burton. 40614 was despatched to Burton in as acquired ex Yellow Bus livery. I assume it has gone for painting local to Burton now, as Rotala are currently flat out working their way through repainting 140+ buses in to Bee Network Livery, plus the two batches of ex First Group Streetlites in Diamond 2 Tone Livery.
