It wasnt planned as should be an R+R (Rescue and recovery) loco spare at Crewe but for whatever reason it wasn't available. Freightliner, DBC, LSL and WCRC were all asked too but with no joy so this was very much a last resort. Hopefully it's not something that gets used too often anyway
I may be wrong and they've turned since but I believe the formation would have had the DVTs coupled in the middle with the good loco on the front and the bad one on the back but could have turned round since so could be wrong.
Still good to know it can be done I suppose

A video of tbe 67 and Mark 4 TFW - 5 car proving run today - on the North Wales Coast.

I assume these are the times for it, I don't think I'd seen them posted here yet.

They were posted but its a couple of weeks later than planned so they're on a while ago.
Running all week in various guises with a few adjustments on different days before the set runs back to ATC Crewe on Friday.

What are they actually measuring with the yellow metal triangle at each door? - see my video

Ok. Thanks.

Would the addition of one car - potentially affect that distance then?
There's the extra coach which wasn't there before but there's also the extra wheelchair area and the changed position of the other one to consider.
Seeing as it's stopping anyway to check these the whole lot may as well be done in one go.
At some point during the week the set will get turned on the triangle at Chester so that it can all be done in the reverse direction.

Thank you for the explanation.

Very interesting.

All being well it'll get turned on the triangle at Chester tomorrow, same outward path then https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:V34722/2023-07-19/detailed on the return.

Once That's done and Thursdays run is completed it should head back to Crewe on Friday for an exam.

Next 2 weeks it should then be running round Manchester-Shrewsbury routes via Warrington, Frodsham, Nantwich, Styal and Wrexham.

After that I believe it'll be reformed as a 4 car set to enter service for a few weeks then in September visit Eastleigh for some mods to the braking, be reformed back to 5 and then the other 6 sets can follow.

67001, 67008, 67010, 67012-015, 67017, 67025 and 67027 are the TfW 67s I've had (I'm aware some no longer work there)
Are there any others I should keep an eye out for, or is that all of them?

Is 67029 still operational? I haven't seen it for yonks.

Theres 67020 and 022 too, 001 and 027 aren't TFW ones now and aren't modified so can't work Mk4s.
029 is currently on HD03 running up and down the North Wales Coast.

I have 67027 down as a new haulage (2023) - would've been pre Australia so could only have been January - would this have been 029 instead perhaps? I seem to remember I was chasing 029 then.

Many thanks for that update

027 is GBRf so definitely would have been 029!

Glorious, ta.

EDIT

Oh, would you look at that - one of the reasons I'm glad the New Haulages thread exists. Thanks, and apologies for the brief hijack of the thread.

Are 67020/022 regularly operational, as I haven't seen those work for a very long time?
They're both at Crewe ETD at the moment, 022 has been stuck at Bangor for months with issues, 020 had a bad problem on Saturday night which is to be fixed. I'd imagine it won't be too long before they're both out again when other locos need work.

They're the 2 in black tfw livery but are by far the most troublesome of the lot!
Both are currently at ETD in Crewe for attention, 020 having failed on Saturday and 022 after being stuck at Bangor for about 4 months with wheelset issues.

Forgive me for asking, but what exactly needs modifying with the 67s?

They worked perfectly well when the Mk IVs were on East Coast on the Newcastle - Carlisle drags.

There's an extra socket fitted to the front of the loco, to enable the '42 way' cable to be plugged into the loco. This allows the loco and DVT to talk to each other

AFAIK on the East Coast they were used to drag the entire set, any 67 can do that, as can pretty much any loco but they were never used to be driven from the DVT with the 67 on the rear

Due to the delay to the 1649 CDF MAN, we have two Black MK4 sets departing Cardiff Central within five minutes of each other today…

1709 67025 + Black MK4 rake to Manchester
1714 67010 + Black MK4 rake to Holyhead
