It is bonkers and needs sorting as it may happen again and the club cannot be left in a state of limbo.
Profile raising has been worthwhile though

Benitez sacked (again) by Everton this time.

His payoffs over the years must be phenomenal - nice work if you can get it.

Maybe Everton should get Chris Silverwood, he must know more about football than he does about cricket.

Duncan Ferguson has apparently become the caretaker manager in the meantime.

Let's not forget that this is the same Duncan Ferguson who gave a Glasgow kiss (headbutt) to Dundee United's Jock McStay while on the pitch back in 1995, and got sent to jail.

Some sad news from a Scotland perspective in that the chairman of Stranraer has passed away. Article from the Glasgow Evening Times at https://www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/sport/19856128.tributes-pour-passing-stranraer-chairman-shaun-niven/

Tributes pour in after the passing of Stranraer chairman Shaun Niven
By Adam Robertson

STRANRAER FC have announced the death of their chairman, Shaun Niven, aged just 52.

Niven took the chairman’s role last May following the resignation of Iain Dougan and has also served as a match secretary.

A statement from the league two club’s vice-chairman Robert H Rice said: “Shaun was a devoted football man and a great friend to all at Stair Park.

“Our thoughts are with Shaun’s family and friends at this awful time.”

Tributes have been pouring in from clubs around Scotland.

Livingston FC posted a statement saying: “Shaun was a brilliant guy – he just ‘got’ Scottish football and what it meant to so many.

“An incredibly helpful and approachable man. A real, sad loss.”

League Two rivals Stenhousemuir FC released a statement saying: “Such tragic news to hear this morning.

“Shaun was very much loved across the league and Scottish football.”

And an SPFL spokesman added: “Extremely sad news. Shaun was a very popular figure in the game who was dedicated to his club and loved football in general – he will be much missed.

“The thoughts of everyone at the SPFL are with Shaun’s family and friends and our colleagues at Stair Park.”

Brechin City also paid tribute via a statement saying: "Everyone at the club was shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Stranraer chairman Shaun Niven.

"Shaun was a great friend to all of us at Brechin City over the years and our thoughts are with his family, friends and all at Stranraer FC at this time."

The Scottish FA also paid tribute, saying: "Everyone at the Scottish FA sends their most sincere condolences to the friends, family and loved ones of Stranraer FC chairman Shaun Niven following his sudden passing.

"Our thoughts are with them at this extremely difficult time."

What is the relevance of this. They should have thrown away the key back then?

I do not know the ins and outs of Everton FC, but if they take on school age children still (I know Wayne Rooney made a senior appearance at the age of 16 back in 2002), this may have some implications.

For instance, if a teacher or care worker is convicted of assaulting someone and has received a custodial sentence, they cannot work with school age people or vulnerable members of society.

Also, if what Ferguson did was done by an ordinary member of the public in the street, that is what the consequences could potentially be i.e. being sent to jail.

In 2001, two burglars decided to target the home of Ferguson and in the confrontation with the six foot four player, they both came off worse for wear, one ending up in hospital.

One of the the last people you'd target would be Duncan Ferguson! Brave or stupid, you decide...

Wolves' stadium caught fire overnight the day after their gave against Brentford was delayed due to a drone.
Pretty crazy couple of days for Wolverhampton Wanderers

What was the damage to the section of the Billy Wright stand itself?
Fire was only this morning, of course, but some online sources are already suggesting that "considerable damage" has been occasioned to the Sir Jack Hayward suite bar area and nearby areas. Would imagine that the bar area will be a complete write-off and that there'll be a lot of smoke damage to surrounding hospitality areas in the Billy Wright stand, at the very least.

Not quite correct. There was a change in legislation a few years back that only relevant offences that make you a risk to children can be considered.
Obviously if you have two equal candidates the clean candidate would probably be taken, although legally that decision can’t be on the basis of a non relevant offence

I'm officially a Comoros fan.

Started the game with a left-back in goal and down to ten men after six minutes yet they are still in it against Cameroon with 5 minutes to go.

The worst home performance in my living memory at least. We are never getting out of this league, 5 years and counting....

Stockport County carry on their winning streak in the National League North, with a Tuesday 3-0 win at home over Maidenhead United, to go to top of the league.
Elsewhere in the National League last night, a 1-0 home win for Dover Athletic (vs Eastleigh) their first win of the season in some 25 league fixtures.

Aren't they a part time squad in a full time league, though?
Yes, part time, there are about three other part time teams in the league.

This season the team has been running on an even small budget due to the 40K fine and points reduction due to not finishing last season and the chairman not putting so much money in.

A lot different from 1990 when we were first relegated to the conference. Darlington and I think Barnet were the only full time teams. We wont the league ;)
Things have changed so much when you see Wrexham paying a possible 300K for a League 1 player this week.
