To clarify - Test trains between North Pole and Exeter would use the 'X' headcode to ensure the signaller routes it via Bristol, where it is cleared to operate. If it had a 'Z' headcode it would almost certainly be sent down the Berks & Hants line, where the IEP isn't cleared to go at present as the routing would be automatic.

Does anybody know what happened on the trial runs last Saturday night? *The train left Reading early but lost almost 2 hours in running between Reading and Goring with a somewhat mixed performance onwards to Wantage Road while the back working lost 6 minutes between Moreton Cutting and Reading. *The second Down run lost 3 minutes between Reading and Goring and the second Up run lost 4 minutes over the same stretch while the third run was cancelled - presumably because by then it was too late as the second Up run was 153 minutes late into Reading.
If you read page 251 of this thread, these were the first tests on this stretch for a few weeks, and they took place within a 4 line possession on Saturday night with no booked traffic. The chances are the delays were due to tests of the OHL equipment rather than anything to do with the traction package. So, a question raised on RMweb about last weekends tests.
E.g.
To Wantage Road. http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/K97524/2017/03/05/advanced
From Wantage Road.

Third run cancelled throughout due to a delay not investigated (OU).

So for what was supposed to be a test run for a pair of these things, It hardly looks good ending up running late then later. One of the internet Wisdom suggests it's traction package related.
One of the first body shells for Italy. Thus 802.
It is a regular occurrence for the body shells to be moved by road from the factory to the dock for shipment. Only this move was during day light hours and subject to some local Hitachi PR. Hence the crowds.
That's not a bodyshell, that's a complete vehicle - presumably one of the pre-production 802s being sent here for testing this summer IIRC.
That is exactly how the body shells are delivered to the factory at Aycliffe, it is far from complete but not as far as the shell recently pictured in Italy.
Am I missing something here? The photo of the first Italian bodyshell shows a basic shell as would be expected for something being assembled in another country.
The vehicle pictured in Japan however is clearly all but complete - windows, doors, headlights, underframe equipment, even the windscreen wipers are fitted!

If I could figure out how to post a pic on here I would of either 811024 or 815024 both delivered into Aycliffe this week in the same state as the ones in Japan.
So what actually happens at Newton Aycliffe? Mate the shell to it's bogies, fit the pantograph, couplers, and external destination displays and then fit out the interior?
IEP shells delivered in this week part of 800024 (815024 and 811024)
There is a schedule in RTT for Thursday. Doncaster IEP depot to Merchants Park. If things happen the same as 800005's delivery this should be one coming in to escort 800006 south on Friday.

Activities at the factory over the past week
800008 appeared outside for the first time Tuesday 07/03/17 and is now under test.
800009 appeared outside for the first time Thursday 09/03/2017.
800010 appeared outside for the first time Thursday 09/03/2017.
800011 appeared outside for the first time Tuesday 14/03/2017.
However still no sign of 800007.
All shells for 800024 arrived last week and the first shell for 800025 arrived today.
Hope this is of interest to someone.
Gareth.
Any reason why a brand spanking new IEP can't make it's own way down to North Pole? Why does it need an escort?
Timings now in RTT for the move south on Friday, possibly 800006+escort

It will just be another class 800. Anyone know which are at Doncaster at the moment...?
A GWR liveried one has just passed York on a run from Doncaster to Merchant Park. http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/K97569/2017/03/16/advanced
Is that 800004?
Confirmed it is 800004
