Just took a trip from Edinburgh down to London in First Class with LNER - first time travelling in First Class with them, and I'll be honest I was overall very pleased with the offering.
Before we'd even departed Edinburgh, the staff came around offering wine and juice, shortly followed by a hot drinks run.
Orders for food were taken no more than five minutes after departure. The service I was on was offering the "Dish" menu, and I was slightly underwhelmed to see only two hot meal options for an evening service.
Regardless, I settled for the asparagus tortellini, and the meal itself was lovely (despite the tiny portion). The lemon posset I had for dessert was also rather nice.
The staff kept us incredibly well watered and fed throughout the journey, with regular drinks runs (both cold and hot) and light snacks, including crisps and biscuits.
Just after the stop at Newcastle, I was surprised to be offered a second choice of food from the menu (which included another hot meal), however I opted for the tuna crunch sub roll.
Unfortunately, the decision to suspend all catering in First Class was announced just after Peterborough, after another passenger in First Class who was feeling quite unwell had collapsed, I believe, and had to be escorted off the train.
This was understandable, but didn't impact my journey very much, as by this point I was already feeling pretty stuffed from the constant stream of food and drinks (including five glasses of wine).
As for the seats - which I've heard complaints about - I found them perfectly comfortable, decently padded and miles better than the seats in Standard Class.
The only criticisms I would make about my experience are regarding the lack of food in the First Class lounge at Edinburgh, and the size of the hot meal (which was to be expected - however the second meal offering made up for the size).
