Do we recognise more people in the dark 6am photos, or the official publicity from mid morning?

I was going to get the 08:39 from St Albans (9M03) and would have been the first train at BCW but I decided at 4 in the morning that I didn't want to and went back to sleep.

From all the photos that are coming out of the station, it looks quite different from the designs we are seeing of new stations but the layout is quite simple and samey. Not as fun as Barking Riverside but cool.

Thameslink have confirmed that facilities for purchasing tickets with cash will be added in the future in the form of the gateline worker selling them.

Nick Badley's video
I must admit I couldn't watch more than a few minutes as his peculiarly middle-aged sounding voice drives me nuts, but it looks a nice bright station, doesn't it, with a lovely big modern canopy, and will surely boost connectivity for that part of North London. Glad to see it's open at last. :)

JenontheMove has uploaded a video:

Good old Jen, can always rely on her to be the first to capture a new train type or station! Very proactive. :D Thanks for linking it in!

Stuart Boyd was there as well (every_station on twitter) as I knew he obviously would be. I only really discovered Nick Badley's Youtube channel in the past couple of weeks and have started watching all his videos, particularly liking the Chathill to Nottingham one.

Seems to of come together fast within the recent weeks, I was working along the tracks through the platforms on the fast side recently and thought there was an awful lot to do before the deadline!

i have watched all the videos, enjoyed them

I went as a guest of O2 and AEG to see inside the O2 Arena shortly before it opened and I was also stunned at how unfinished it was so late in the day. They were still putting down resin flooring in some area which needed to set (and not get any marks, such as someone stepping on it or whatever). They were clearly working overtime, but it all got done.

It was similar on the Olympic Park where the stadium still had a lot of work being done until the deadline.

Branch line, shirley!
It's 'mainline' in the sense of being on the national network and not part of LU, DLR, etc. If you're excluding any TFL-Exclusive station (i.e. East London Line, Crossrail, DLR, LU, and Barking Riverside) I'm not sure when the last new one would have been.

Ooops, I completely forgot Meridian Water opened in 2019. Not served by any TfL-exclusive services (Greater Anglia only).

I recognise the leader of Barnet Council

Labour won Barnet last year, so they were able to bask in the glory of the new opening!

That was arguably a relocation rather than an opening. However Lea Bridge opened in 2016, which is also less than a decade ago.

Visited the station today, was quite surprised to see a poster about timetable amendments until Sunday 10 December with a scheme that doesn’t include Brent Cross West itself…

On the east side at 10pm Sunday night, the floor was covered in water, as were the escalators and the metal "bannister" between them. One of the escalators slowed down when no-one used it, but two didn't, and one wasn't working at all. I hope they fix the roof before water breaks everything.

It wasn't as if the rain at the weekend was especially heavy either.

I'm guessing the reason Brent Cross West is the first new mainline station in a decade is because Lea Bridge was a replacement station as was Meridian Water which replaced Angel Road.

I assume Stratford International was the last new mainline station in London.

Maybe it’s part of the forest like theme they have going on

Looks like lots of politicians and youtubers, and not many people who actually built it.

Eastern entrance of the station - looks quite nice but looks like possibly two lifts just to get up to the walkway level? Or perhaps the exit to the walkway is on the other side?
Geoff Marshall’s video confirmed it’s the same lifts, they do call at all three levels.

Visited yesterday, won't bother posting any photos as the above post ticks that off!

A bit of a faff with its different levels, and lack of down escalator on the west side, but the station serves as a very useful crossing of the railway too.
