I must admit I couldn't watch more than a few minutes as his peculiarly middle-aged sounding voice drives me nuts, but it looks a nice bright station, doesn't it, with a lovely big modern canopy, and will surely boost connectivity for that part of North London. Glad to see it's open at last.Nick Badley's video
Good old Jen, can always rely on her to be the first to capture a new train type or station! Very proactive. Thanks for linking it in!JenontheMove has uploaded a video:
Saw Geoff Marshall when I was there earlier
Britain's newest station is now open! Welcome to Brent Cross West servied by Thameslink services, it's station number 2580 on the National Rail network, so I went for a look around ...
Seems to of come together fast within the recent weeks, I was working along the tracks through the platforms on the fast side recently and thought there was an awful lot to do before the deadline!
i have watched all the videos, enjoyed them
Just out of interest, which was the last? Are we excluding Crossrail?View attachment 148180View attachment 148181
Yes there was an opening ceremony, however it’s not the first new mainline station in London in a decade.
Barking Riverside opened after Crossrail, didn't it? (does depend heavily on your definition of 'mainline')Just out of interest, which was the last? Are we excluding Crossrail?

Branch line, shirley!Barking Riverside opened after Crossrail, didn't it? (does depend heavily on your definition of 'mainline')
It's 'mainline' in the sense of being on the national network and not part of LU, DLR, etc. If you're excluding any TFL-Exclusive station (i.e. East London Line, Crossrail, DLR, LU, and Barking Riverside) I'm not sure when the last new one would have been.Branch line, shirley!
I recognise the leader of Barnet CouncilDo we recognise more people in the dark 6am photos, or the official publicity from mid morning?
Loading gauge/clearanceDoes anybody know why the platforms don't give step-free access?
That was arguably a relocation rather than an opening. However Lea Bridge opened in 2016, which is also less than a decade ago.Ooops, I completely forgot Meridian Water opened in 2019. Not served by any TfL-exclusive services (Greater Anglia only).
It wasn't as if the rain at the weekend was especially heavy either. On the east side at 10pm Sunday night, the floor was covered in water, as were the escalators and the metal "bannister" between them. One of the escalators slowed down when no-one used it, but two didn't, and one wasn't working at all. I hope they fix the roof before water breaks everything.
Maybe it’s part of the forest like theme they have going onOn the east side at 10pm Sunday night, the floor was covered in water, as were the escalators and the metal "bannister" between them. I’m not sure how you’d know that. They’re not likely to be in orange his vis if not there to do construction.Looks like lots of politicians and youtubers, and not many people who actually built it.
Geoff Marshall’s video confirmed it’s the same lifts, they do call at all three levels.Eastern entrance of the station - looks quite nice but looks like possibly two lifts just to get up to the walkway level? Or perhaps the exit to the walkway is on the other side?

Which would make that 2009.I'm guessing the reason Brent Cross West is the first new mainline station in a decade is because Lea Bridge was a replacement station as was Meridian Water which replaced Angel Road.
I assume Stratford International was the last new mainline station in London.
