Just unapproved it. It is not deleted so you don't get a PM.

Brundell Park is neither here nor there.

I didn't knw you could do that with any old post, as opposed to moderation-related posts...

For the record, the second post says Brunton Park, which I believe is correct.

Don't know about DNR or BTE, but the others all have a type of bird as part of their name.

BTE = Bitterne (not sure what type of bird is in the name).
CWU = Crowhurst (crow).
DNR = what station is this?
DVH = Dove Holes (dove).
FCN = Falconwood (falcon).
FNY = Finchley Road & Frognal (finch).
GLE = Gleneagles (eagle).
HKH = Hawkhead (hawk).
LBZ = Leighton Buzzard (buzzard).
LRH = Larkhall (lark).
MAO = Martins Heron (heron).
RVB = Ravensbourne (raven).
SAY = Swanley (swan).
TUR = Turkey Street (turkey).
WRE = Wrenbury (wren).

This is all a bit strange as in the Southern version everyone emails answers so nobody sees anyone elses ! This is intended to be a way of teaching rail staff about the network so it may be far too easy for you guys !

For the premiership clubs i used the nearest station that NRE gives when you input the postcode

I wasn't sure about MUF - is there a train service there on match days?

Here is yesterday's solution:

Sorry about DNR it should have been DNO as you guessed

BTE - Bitterne - Bittern and tern
CWU - Crowhurst - Crow

Also
COH - Crowborough
CRN - Crowthorne
CWE - Crowle

DNO - Dunrobin Castle - Robin
DVH - Dove Holes - Dove

Also
DVC - Dovercourt
DVP - Dover Priory
DVY - Dovey Junction

FCN - Falconwood - Falcon
FNY - Finchley Rd & Frognal - Finch
GLE - Gleneagles - Eagle

Also
EAG - Eaglescliffe

HKH - Hawkhead - Hawk
LBZ - Leighton Buzzard - Buzzard
LRH - Larkhall - Lark
MAO - Martins Heron - Martin and Heron
RVB - Ravensbourne - Raven

Also
RAV - Ravenglass for Eskdale

SAY - Swanley - Swan

Also
SWA - Swansea
SWM - Swanscombe

TUR - Turkey Street - Turkey
WRE - Wrenbury - Wren

Other ideas you had

DAW - Dawlish - Daw

Also
DWW - Dawlish Warren

DAW - common black and grey eurasian bird noted for thievery!

GTR - Goostrey - Goose

and here is Tuesday's game:

This game is called "Go Figure"

The station names include a number

Use the numbers in the calculation below

Note that ^ means "to the power of"

((FOK ^ TOK)/DHN)*JEQ

FOK = Four Oaks (4).

TOK = Three Oaks (3).

DHT = Deighton (8).

JEQ = Jewellery Quarter (1/4).

Therefore it's ((4 ^ 3)/8)*1/4 = 2.

The matchday specials are the only things that stop at MUF - I don't think there's any exits that don't lead directly into the ground.
The exits deposit you outside the turnstiles, so you can exit the station and walk to the tram stop.

The solution to Wednesday's quiz was 2
But BRE is much better so well done

Here is Thurday's quiz:

This game is called "Those were the days"

The first list is of towns which used to have a railway station but don't anymore

The second list is the nearest station

Match the towns on the first list to the stations on the second

The stations are derived from NRE using the postcode function - i'm not sure that i always agree with them!

Here is the solution

Blythe should indeed be Blyth

I think Gosport is nearer Portsmouth Harbour but i entered postcode PO12 4TW into nationalrail.co.uk and thats what i got
The postcode is from the map reference of the site of Gosport station

Town-Map reference-Postcode-Nearest station-Code

Consett-Z112507-DH8 7JN-Stocksfield-[SKS]
Blyth-NZ312817-NE24 1ET-Cramlington-[CRM]

Bridport-SY474934-DT6 3BN-Maiden Newton-[MDN]

Gosport-SU614003-PO12 4TW-Fareham-[FRM]
Hailsham-TQ589093-BN27 2DQ-Polegate-[PLG]
Hawick-NT505153-TD9 8BD-Carlisle-[CAR]
Ilfracombe-SS516468-EX34 8EQ-Barnstaple-[BNP]
Louth-TF333879-LN11 0UY-Grimsby Town-[GMB]
Lyme Regis-SY334926-DT7 3NL-Axminster-[AXM]

It's probably done by driving distance. Of course, there is the ferry option ;)

Here is Friday's game

Its called "Take Five"

Stations whose names are 5 letters long are listed below in groups according to the TOC that operates them

Firstly (as a warm up) identify the stations (without looking them up)

Then think of more stations with 5 letters (the full name must be 5 letters - so Dover Priory would not count) and identify the operator. I can only think of one but i'm sure you'll come up with more than that. Note where the county is shown after the station name those letters don't count eg ashurst (kent)

It's surprising how easy these codes can be sometimes. I don't know most of the Scottish ones but actually they're pretty obvious - what else could match KEH or YOK for instance?

Oh, and um, try to improve the formatting next time. The layout for that question was pretty poor. Please don't take this as a criticism though.

Thanks for your suggestions
I really should have thought of Grove Park-Sundridge Park-Bromley North
I checked Shipley-Frizinghall-Bradford Forster Square and all the trains i saw were either from Skipton or Ilkley
Wrexham General to Wrexham Central seems to be just one train a day (0710)
Kettering-Corby and Redhill-Reigate do have some purely local journeys although most services these days are to/from London

Today's game is called "This Train Don't Stop There Anymore"

The list below is of stations that have a maximum of one train in each direction on weekdays - can you identify them (without peeking) and can you think of anymore ?

FOC and DNO are closed for the winter but are not included

Thank you

Bordesley seems to have one train per week at 1337 towards Birmingham on Saturdays

I'm sure there must be more that i haven't spotted

There are quite a few near misses like CHT Chathill (2 trains per day)
