Just checked and RTT shows its last working as 1S19 1205 Littlehampton - Brighton, making that the last West Coastway 313 service.

Live scenes from beside the deathbed of ’3209. The coroner's verdict has yet to be confirmed, but it is expected to find that the cause of death is old age (odometer's ticked over).

Update: it's not dead. It's just got into Lewes not in service, and quoting the guard, there has been a "f**k up" (excuse the language, but it's what the guard said)

According to the guard there is nothing wrong with 313209 and someone tried to sub it for a 377 and the 377 failed it's test

313209 has gone to lovers walk depot.

This just turned up :(

4-BEP/4-CEP (cl.410/411) managed 49 years 1956-2005 but I wouldn't want that to take the shine off the 3-PEPs achievements.

Then we all went back to bed, put the duvet over our head and waited, until the final few of another "class of 1976" reach their End of Life.

Clue: some were built in Romania
Gulp - class 56s.

For me 313s, 56s and HSTs were the shiny new things at the start of my interest in British Railways and they are all going/gone around now. I suppose nearly the APT-P as well but with nowhere near such an illustrious career.

So the 70s era comes to a close.

Question - I cannot be sure but did 313213 end up being the last in service ?.

Will the 313/2s be going for immediate scrap soon (I'm aware 3 have gone already) or will there be a long, painful languish in storage for whatever reason?

Given the pace at which recent disposals have taken place, I imagine they’ll be duly ‘recycled’ before very long.

The 456s of course were supposedly going for storage at first, I believe they didn’t last very long at all before somebody decided they were most valuable as scrap.

About 12 months for the 456s I think it was.
