What products can you remember that have disappeared?

Quite common with discontinued products, you get the occasional chancer who buys some of the last remaining stock and hopes someone is desperate enough to pay silly money for it.

The Glenfiddich Liqueur I mentioned in an earlier post is another (more extreme) example, there are a few places online asking £400 or more for a bottle, can't remember the price before it was discontinued but it definitely would have been less than £20.
I'm going to be trying places like Poundland, Home Bargains, B&M. They sometimes have discontinued stuff long after the 'proper' supermarkets have run out.

I haven't sold any cigarettes since the plain packaging and the requirement to have them out of sight were introduced, but when I worked for the Co-op there were a couple of brands which were still in smaller sizes - Embassy Regal (blue stripe) and Embassy Filter (red stripe); I don't recall anyone buying them.
10 packs went out at the same time as plain packaging came in. The thinking was that kids were more likely to buy the smaller ones- which was almost certainly correct... however it also meant that your "last pack" if you were trying to quit, lasted longer!

A great range of colours but only one "flavour"
Alpine's "American Cream Soda" was somewhat different to their "Dandelion and Burdock" but yes, reckon you're otherwise more-or-less spot on there! ;)

I'd change all to a different design as supplied with a new strimmer since initially I don't really want to tamper with it but I have yet to establish if there is one and if so separate plugs and sockets are available.
A kettle style plug and socket would work, assuming the strimmer is rated less than 2.3kW. You would need a cable mount C13 and C14, i.e. https://cpc.farnell.com/pro-elec/pel00578/iec-c14-rewireable-plug-white/dp/CN20581
and
or you could just buy a long IEC C13 lead (i.e. https://cpc.farnell.com/pro-elec/pe01102/lead-ra-iec-c13-skt-to-13a-plug/dp/PL13361?st=uk plug) and a C14 connector.

Thanks - yes those would work. Another option is the older 2-pin style I previously used and still available

One weakness with both types is that they do not lock together. As I recall the older style initially were reasonably tight but soon a looser fit.

Unless I see an end of season strimmer bargain something to sort out next spring.

A 16A commando connector is another option if you want a connector that is robust and locks together, CPC's own brand are good quality.

That would be a bit bulky and heavy to be dangling off the end of the handle at the appliance end, surely?

might be, but the connectors aren't that heavy, and yea I do have a fair bit of experience with them, both 16 and 32A and on the extension I made for work the weight of the connector isn't an issue as it's got 4mm² cable coming out of it!

Being a painter and decorator I wouldn’t touch any of the ‘Once’ varieties. My customers would probably shoot me. ;)

Various beers that were big, but vanished

Castlemain 4X
Absolutely disgusting stuff, but dirt cheap.

I once attended a 10 week summer school at a university, where we had accommodation and meals for free, as well as 60 quid a week bursary. Not having anything to actually spend money on, we bought obscene amounts of Fink Brau from Lidl and 4X from the other supermarket nearby. It got out of hand when we were turning up at breakfast with a beer, just because we could. The summer school itself only had 12 hours of lectures a week, so we were left with the rest of the time to do absolutely nothing but drink.

I still remember my friend (now a respectable Army sergeant) getting smashed at breakfast before one lecture, and we were routinely taking a couple of beers to the canteen in the evening. We were only obliged to attend lectures, but we were under no obligation to actually study or do anything apart from that.

Is Hoffmiester (follow the bear) still around?

Apparently so, although since 2016, Hofmeister has been under new ownership. (Back in the day, this lager brand used to be part of the Scottish & Newcastle empire).

Creme Egg Twisted - A creme egg bar, now only available in boxes of Heroes
Belated update on this: my local Co-op/Keystore has been selling individual grab bags of Heros-sized Creme Egg Twisted bars since roughly mid-late December last year as part of the Christmas/seasonal confectionary range. No doubt they'll disappear before the end of the month.
