Looks swish, and you certainly can't say London Overground fail in advertising the extended trains to Joe Public.

anyone else want that as actual wrapping paper?
I'd certainly prefer that to a generic sleigh bells and snowflakes design. TfL Shop, if you're watching, here's an excellent festive commercial opportunity for you!

The 5th carriage of 378135 was unveiled today. It's had a vinyl applied to make it look like the carriage is covered in roundel themed wrapping paper that's being peeled off. It's also got something like "This is one of 57 extra carriages" on the side too, as well as a large London Overground logo on the front of the unit and in big letters "5 car train". Not sure how long these will remain on the unit.

Saw it last night in the sidings after leaving New Cross Gate for Canada Water. Guessed it was the 5 car due to the strange livery on one coach. Now confirmed by the previous photos.

Thanks.:D

Well except Canada Water. TfL should ask LUL about that. No joined up thinking

Forgot about this
Depends on what the plans were for the ELL when the JLE was planned, guessing way back in the late 1980s and early 1990s that was done?
Shepherd's Bush and Imperial Wharf seem inexcusable, however the latter was built with private developer funding and had a fair amount of issues getting that, so looks like they'd gone for the absolute minimum cost.
Or has the growth really caught them off guard?! :?

Canada Water was planned in late 80s/early 90s and started building in 1993 when the ELL was expected to get a single branch extension towards Peckham.

Overground planning didn't start until after the JLE was complete. So you can hardly blame them for not having Canada Water ready for something that wasn't even a idea when being built really.

What really isn't a surprise is when you replace trains up to eight cars long with four cars and link to new places you get demand for more carriages.

Anyone has any latest gen on the progress of these extra cars? I noticed the other day that 141 also had the 5th car inserted. How many other ones have also been done? How fast are they doing them?

In terms of deliveries, 38435-48 inclusive have made it to New Cross Gate and 38449-52 came south today to Wembley.

That's odd. I was writing an update earlier when I had to leave for something and forgot to re-write it. Interior is identical to other carriages, as you'd expect, although minor things like route maps aren't put in straight away.

The following 5th carriages were delivered to New Cross Gate on these dates...

378135 - 28/10/2014 (whole unit returned with 5th carriage in consist)
378136 - 30/10/2014
378137 - 02/12/2014
378138 - 02/12/2014
378139 - 09/12/2014
378140 - 02/12/2014
378141 - 09/12/2014
378142 - 09/12/2014
378143 - 06/01/2015
378144 - 06/01/2015
378145 - 06/01/2015
378146 - 06/01/2015
378147 - 15/01/2015
378148 - 15/01/2015
378149 - 27/01/2015
378150 - 27/01/2015
378151 - 27/01/2015
378152 - 27/01/2015

378135 to 378144 are all definitely 5 car and in service as such. Each is booked in for three days, so e.g unit booked for lengthening from Wednesday 14th until Friday 16th. Therefore, I'd say 378145/146/147 should also be done, but can't confirm that at the moment.

In that case I must have been seeing things, as I counted the carriages on 378140 yesterday and I was certain that I counted 4. Not so sure now.

Not sure if anyone wants updates on this or not, but carrying on from my previous post.

The following 5th carriages were delivered to New Cross Gate on these dates...

378153 - 04/02/2015
378154 - 06/02/2015
378202 - 13/02/2015
378203 - 20/02/2015
378204 - 20/02/2015

(provisional date for carriages for 203 and 204 - they did Derby to Wembley today and typically do Wembley to New Cross Gate the next day, for which there is a path in for tomorrow)

All of the 378/1s are now complete and in service as 5 cars.

Good job then I managed to track down 203 and 204 last week anticipating that it was my last chance to get them in 4-car mode. :)

What is the latest with 378201?

Last I knew, 378201 was still at Derby. Was due to return but think it was playing up a bit.

A carriage was dropped off at NXG Tuesday night, the loco was waiting to leave Platform 1 when I walked up to the depot at 4am on Wednesday morning however have no idea which carriage it was.

Its quite amusing as you can tell when you're sat* in the new coach as its visibly brighter and has no car cards in there nor maps!!

*Does not apply to peak time as its still bloody full even with the extra coach

Does that apply to all services through Canada Water in the peaks or are the West Croydon/Crystal Palace ones obviously worse than the Clapham Junction/New Cross ones?

Keep seeing Tyrell messages/emails from LOROL saying every train (apart from two services at the extremes) between 0600-1000 on the East London Line are 5 coaches! Didn't realise it was all progressing so quickly :)

West Croydon ones are epic and lucky to get a seat at Norwood junction in the peaks!!

Think most ELL trains are done now arent they? been ages since ive been down there on one that isnt 5 coaches.

Yeah I'm sure most of the ELL stock is done, I'm aware that it's 378201-378210 and all 378/1s. Last time I was there, 378209 was the only 4 coach train remaining

The way it should be done - just quietly getting on with it, not a press release every time someone breaths ;)

Again, following on, the following is what I have as delivery date at New Cross Gate depot for the fifth car...

378205 - 03/03/2015
378206 - 03/03/2015
378207 - 12/03/2015
378208 - 12/03/2015
378209 - 18/03/2015*

*Should arrive in early hours

Of the above, 378205-207 should now be in service, with 208 being lengthened.

378201, as a full 5 car unit, returned from Derby on 06/03/2015. It needed some tests though, so don't think it's in service yet?

378209 will be the last to be lengthened for a little while. The North London Line and West London Line platforms need testing, which will be done in a few weeks I think.
