Do people still play Wordle?

People don't seem to be sharing their score every day on social media like they used to, although it appears they do still play it. I don't mind that myself as it means my Facebook/Twitter isn't incessantly filled with green and yellow squares anymore. I do still see the odd one now and then however it's not a constant stream every day.

Just discovered this today. I am wondering though what algorithm is used for calculating how many stations away you are from the answer, since the route with the least stations between two stops may not always be the shortest.

That's actually quite clever - the clues make it enough of a challenge to solve to be interesting.

As for the algorithm: I think the only way to make it fair given the description of the game on the site would be to look for the fewest number of stations you can pass through to get to the destination, ignoring how many changes or actual time it would take in real life. Having said that, I suspect their algorithm is faulty. Spoiler explanation - don't read if you still want to attempt today's puzzle.

The answer today was Dagenham East. I typed in Oxford Circus as the first attempt, and got a clue of 17 stops. This is correct if you do: Central to Tottenham Court Road, Elizabeth to Whitechapel, District to Dagenham East. But you can actually do it in 16 if at Mile End you do Central to Stratford, then Jubilee to West Ham, then back to the District. I'm guessing the algorithm hasn't noticed this solution.

Another thing to point out upon completing yesterday’s Tuble. The game suggests that Goldhawk Road is 14 stops away from Parsons Green (the answer), when in fact it is only 7 (or 8 if you consider Hammersmith to be two separate stations with the OSI between the Circle/Hammersmith and District/Piccadilly platforms).

I was going to put it in with the main text, but thought of putting it as a spoiler to protect the clues in case the answer comes up again at a future date.

With tuble I am beginning to see some of the peculiarities. My starting station is Neasden, but it seems that many distances are counted by going out to Wembley Park and then back on the Met. I may change my starting point.

I tend to start with Bank / Monument as my start point, although with so many routes out of it, that's probably not the most sensible idea..

My logic with Neasden is that, by combining the number of zones and the number of stations, you may get some idea of which general area the target is in. Or at least after the second go. (Not always, though.)

Playing Metrodle most days, only thing with that and other tube-related puzzle games is that it obviously only has a limited run of 272 games (it’s currently up to #53) unless they add London Overground/DLR/Tramlink stops, or start recycling sone of the stations, in the same way that the 5am-6am early breakfast show on BBC local radio started recycling the “early bird” game.

Further bump, today was Metrodle 272, after I’d completed it it displayed the usual “the next Metrodle will arrive in <countdown timer>” with no indication of what’s to come tomorrow.
